Thanks. A great reminder. I find I slip into carrying pastoral burdens and wanting to resolve problems that are beyond me, I get overwhelmed and tired. It is good to stop. It is good to take some extended time of prayer to commit what is on my heart to the Lord. And sometimes it is good to take an extra day off in the week, like Friday and Saturday. I can feel like I've had 4 weeks holiday after taking just one extra day off. And the world doesn't gave in or fall apart : ) I'm going to try to have this Friday and Saturday off this week. It is so simple really. When you are tired, don't work harder, commit to the Lord and have a proper rest. Thanks again, great reminder

Thanks for the article it was very helpful. It caused me to reflect. I have really been struggeling with this issue and did not think there was anything that could help. Sily me to think my problem was too big for God.

Yeah, Jim, Thanks!!

There is a sense that "sabbath" and "sabbath resting" has become something we "do" (or don't based upon our theology) rather than a relational reality we "enter" . . .

I find your words very inviting to taste something different . . .

Thanks Jim, I can relate to the guy you mentioned. Not bitter but often tired. I appreciate your insights here. Sometimes for me, like the disciples of Jesus I feel he's just saying, “Come a way for a while and rest.” He also often withdrew to solitary places to pray. However, even then, as you point out the real rest is something deeper. The physical rest at best, can help us reconnect with that deeper rest of soul that so easily slips away. Thanks again I especially like the idea of listening to the weariness and "allowing the tiredness to be a tool used by the gentle one....

Wow Jim. You've nailed it on the head and this entire article is about me and a couple of my friends. Exhaustion. Blackberries. Perfectionism. Unreasonable demands from THEM and ME. Great site.

That's my Jim! It's amazing how me and the wifey poo needed to read such a thing- dealing with what we are dealing with now. Good stuff: eloquent but simple to digest and remember, and right on the money!
