		<description>Hi Steve,
It took me a long time before I was able to exercise. I did the gym things several times but I never stuck to it. For the last 10 years I weighed in at anywhere between 325 and 350. The heaviest being 354.
I used time and many other things as an excuse. In August my son in Florida suggested I get on my bike and just ride around the block. He is an avid road bicyclist and does 30 to 40 miles a day and 60 to 70 miles on Saturday.
I took his advise and bought a helmet and started just around the block. Now I ride about 25 miles a week with my best week was 51 miles. I also have been doing other exercises as well. I even am doing your beginner routine 3 times a week. From my 350 in August I weighed this morning and I am 307.
As I thought long and hard I all of a sudden realized what has caused me to fail in the past. It was Public Education and the military. In School every time someone messed up, and often it was me, the coach would say run two times around the football field, and sometimes it was 4 times. Minor offenses brought about the give me 20, pull ups or push ups. When I went to Basic Training the military was doing the same thing. Exercise was punishment.
Now that I realize that it is good for me and should never have been considered or used as punishment, I am enjoying it.
Now as I look at public and even Christian education, I wonder if the time out used for punishment is not also bad for our youth. Are you going to cause them to subconsciously hate quiet times alone. Are we causing our youth to despise those moments we need alone with the LORD. I think in our wisdom to punish differently than God prescribed may do us all more harm than good.
I may be in the minority, but after much reflection, the thing that kept de-railing me was correlating exercise and punishment. NO MORE.... Exercise is good.
Blessings
